Recent recruitment trends
The start of 2025 has been busier than the second half of 2024, particularly for AI & Data Engineering due to new initiatives relating to artificial intelligence and regulatory programs or work.
Skills in Demand
Increase in contract roles, particularly Data Engineering with a focus on Azure stack and Databricks
Cloud Engineering, DevOps, platform engineering are also in demand as businesses move towards a cloud native application environment.
Recruitment predictions
Slow start to new financial year, ramp up in Oct-Nov as big transformations in FS kick off then tail off as come into the traditionally quiet Christmas period.
Expect to see some churn in roles as senior candidates who have 4-5 years tenure in roles look for change.
Demand is coming for core skills in AI and data blended with domain knowledge in, for example, risk & finance. There’s a lack of this blended skill set in Australia so businesses need to think about how to attract experienced candidates from offshore and potentially offer sponsorship opportunities.
